![]() ![]() "Dacote" is an acronym for "Dies at conclusion of this episode", and Buddy was supposed to be killed by a boss at the end of the planned third episode. The sole non-playable character, Buddy Dacote, bore the most similarities to the original game's eventual protagonist. Tom Hall's original design draft, "The Doom Bible", described several planned characters, but they were not used for the final version. Romero said, " There was never a name for the DOOM marine because it's supposed to be YOU." The original game's co-designer John Romero said this was to increase player immersion. Creation CharacteristicsĬreated by id Software, the Doom Marine had no name, as it wasn't necessary. The final boss, Icon of Sin, is an immense baphomet that the Marine defeats at the end of Doom II. He would later encounter the Spider Mastermind and destroy him. The Marine eventually faced off against the massive Cyberdemon, the guardian of the Tower of Babel, and defeated him. He killed nearly the whole demon army and reached the teleporter to Deimos. The Doom Marine was stationed on Mars and was ordered to go to Phobos after the UAC experiments had caused an invasion of demons. ![]()
